Earthquake Preparedness and School Emergency Management

This one hour webinar focused on earthquake preparedness and school emergency management planning. The webinar presented information and strategies for incorporating earthquakes with a comprehensive all-hazards school emergency management plan using the four phases of emergency management (Prevention-Mitigation, Preparedness, Response, and Recovery).

The webinar was presented by our colleagues Jill Barnes and Mark Benthien. Jill Barnes is with the Los Angeles (CA) Unified School District’s Office of Emergency Services. Mark Benthien is the Director of Communication, Education, and Outreach with the Southern California Earthquake Center and also serves as the Executive Director, Earthquake Country Alliance.

Participants learned about key prevention and mitigation strategies as well as key preparedness principles for designing an effective response and hastening the recovery process. Additionally, the webinar highlighted the critical role of training and exercise programs conducted in collaboration with community partners.
