When Francisco Martinez fails to get moving to class, he says security guard, Marchell Mitchell, proceeded to help him along by pushing his wheelchair for him. But, that’s when things got out of hand. Officials say freshman Martinez tried to stop the guard by pushing his hands off the chair, but was handcuffed. They say, the teen responded by spitting on the guard. The school’s surveillance video captures the guard then punching the wheelchair bound student several times before dumping his limp body on the floor. We are both a community of interest and a facilitator of joint research projects, reaching out to the general public as well as stakeholders in the public, private, non-profit, and academic sectors. Our purpose is to create a space for stakeholders where true partnering can occur in order to make school safety sustainable beyond Federal funding.
